The Wisdom of a Broken Heart

a poem by Jeni Juarez

What saddens me the most about the current state of the world is how people everywhere are becoming so paralyzed by fear; that they are struggling so much to access their emotional resilience—their unarmed heart.

It is this turning away from—this armored heart—that keeps us separated, alienated from one another; unable to feel the warmth, the magnificence of a heart-to-heart connection.

What encourages me the most about the current state of the world is how people everywhere are becoming so paralyzed by fear. Because my deeper wisdom tells me that suffering is Grace. It forces us to wake up and pay attention.

Everyone has a pain tolerance threshold, and when it’s exceeded, we push back. It is in this pushing back that we discover our emotional resilience; we discover that our broken hearts will not only mend, but they will become stronger.

And once we’ve fully imbibed that eternal Truth—that there’s immense power in an open heart, a heart that grows stronger with each break—then we have nothing to fear.

We then finally understand—we connect with the part of ourselves that cannot be harmed, diminished, or destroyed. And we recognize our purpose: To love those who have yet to discover their true nature, their unarmored Heart.

Whether their fear presents as depression, rage, greed, envy, or any other disguise, it is still F.E.A.R.—false evidence appearing real that motivates us to armor our hearts and cut ourselves off from the ever-present Divine Interconnection.

May All Beings Be Free From Suffering.
