We live in a fast-paced world, and often everything seems to be spinning out of control. I know well the feeling that I could scream if someone gave me one more thing to do or keep track of.
A few years ago, when I was going through a divorce, a change in employment, and a son in the throes of addiction, I just wanted to give up. I had tried everything I could think of: working harder and more hours; giving everyone around me advice on how they should live their lives; worrying incessantly; and demanding that things be done my way. When I almost suffered a nervous breakdown and drug problems of my own, I realized working harder and my delusions of control were not the answer.
One day, I was sitting in a bookstore, perusing the Self-Help section when a book just about dropped off the shelf into my lap. “Full Catastrophe Living” by Jon Kabat-Zinn. That was certainly an apt description of my life right then. The book was about a program called Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for people just like me: overworked, undernourished, and at the end of their rope.
Stories run in circles, and circles within circles, so there are many other parts to this story; but this is its essence, and that was the beginning of healing for me. Please come to a Free Information Session and see if the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program might help you, as well.
